You might have heard this already from a radio rip but here’s the official stream of the Holy Ghost!’s cover of Friendly Fires’ ‘On Board’. The recently deceased Jeremy Fuchs also contributed to the track. The full details of the release sees Friendly Fires’ cover ‘Hold On’ in return and instrumentals of each track also. The 12″ and digital download will be released on split XL Recordings/DFA Records on the 8th of March. The bands agreed to cover each other after a drunken conversation one night at the Corsica’s Calvi Rocks festival last July so now you know.

Only one of the best god-damn bands I’ve seen live in an age. It’s worth clicking to the site to watch first song ‘Lovesick’ and the other 50-odd minutes.

Their Wham!tastic! new single. I love Friendly Fires but I’m not sure about this..

At the very least, Ed McFarlane proves you can dance spastically to it. Nice moves.

I can wholeheartedly get behind this however:

Friendly Fires – Jump in the Pool (Thin White Duke remix)

hopesandoval“Because not everything music bloggers get sent is total shit.”

This time around – Dam Funk, The Do, new material from Hope Sandoval (pictured), Cass McCombs, a White Lies remix, The Phenomenal Handclap Band and a friendly Fires mashup.

The Dø are an oddball Finnish/French duo who despite not singing in French have found success in the charts there. Their album A Mouthful is an eccentric collection of songs with a fairly mainstream heart. It’s the voice of Olivia B. Merilahti which bends it towards something more intriguing.

oxoegen That’s right y’all. Thanks to Bacardi who will be bringing the Bacardi B-Live Stage back to Oxegen 2009 on July 10th -12th (next weekend) we are giving away a pair of camping tickets with the added bonus of unlimited access to the Bacardi B-Live VIP arena, for when you need to find a comfy seat and a cocktail on site with DJs like Beardyman, Horse Meat Disco, Dublin Streets, Soundcheck, Filthy Dukes and A Skillz on hand if ya fancy a wee dance.

Oxegen has a completely stonking lineup this year and personally I cannot wait to see Friendly Fires, Foals, Pendulum, Hudson Mohawke, Fever Ray, Mogwai, Jamie Woon, Onra, Goldielocks, Aeroplane, Mumford & Sons, Blur, Little Boots, St. Vincent and on and on. Of course, I’m DJing on Sunday in the Dance Arena at 3.20pm before Fever Ray so look out for that obviously ;)

All you have to do answer the question below in the comments:

What has been the best live act you’ve ever seen at Oxegen and why?

The best answer wins the pair of tickets. You can include Witnness live acts as well if you want. If you’ve never been to Oxegen, tell us the best festival set and you’ve ever seen. Comment lines closed on Tuesday the 7th at noon. Get scribblin’.

You can also win tickets here and here.

ff In between everyone buggering off to Primavera – where Wavves had a complete meltdown and Aphex Twin played a greatest hits set (Stay tuned to State.ie for Darragh and Loreana’s updates), a show from Final Fantasy consisting of more experimental, less melodic and more off-kilter new songs, one of the contenders for gig of the year in the superb Friendly Fires gig in Waterford, a Bonus Party show in Galway, and what’s to come: the Happy Valley festival in Thomastown, Kilkenny featuring R.S.A.G., David Kitt and SEBP and the Mad Daacent Soundsystem tomorrow night, I’ve found the time to devote my ears to Veckatimest over and over again. Here’s why:

Enjoy the sunshine – last week’s mixtape should do the trick. Big Nialler9 news next week.
