Paul Weller The concept of Paul Weller remixed sure sounds a bit odd but then again Portishead remixed ‘Wildwood’ beautifully back in the ’90s so I guess it’s no big deal.

Here, Leo Zero and DJ Zinc put their own stamps on ‘No Tears To Cry’ and ‘Wake Up The Nation’ respectively. Leo Zero’s has a light-hearted touch: all strings, a repetitive background funk lick and breezy percussion. It clocks in at 8 minutes and is a gentle celebration.

MP3: Paul Weller – No Tears To Cry (Leo Zero remix)

Zinc’s remix has a harder edge to match Weller’s angry sounding vocal delivery. It’s electro beats, house percussion, big bass and synth breakdowns. Not a million miles from his La Roux remix last year.

Weller’s new album also called, Wake Up The Nation is out on April 19th on Island Records. Kevin Shields appears on the record too.

chromeoLast Gang Records are releasing a deluxe version of Tiga’s album Ciao! next week through iTunes. The expanded edition includes bonus reworks of Tiga tunes from Chromeo, A-Trak and Steve Aoki along with videos (full tracklisting).

Here’s Chromeo’s remix of ‘What You Need’ which turned out as more of a cover than a remix really. Meanwhile, Chromeo are busy in the studio working on their new album (due in August) and they’ve started a studio diary which you can watch after the jump.

Silver Columns I’m kinda disappointed Silver Columns wasn’t Jimmy Sommerville in the end but whatever. Three people who commented on the original Introducing post were correct in the assumption that Silver Columns are Adem & The Pictish Trail. So now we move on to their new release.

Cavalier is coming out on Moshi Moshi in April. The followup to ‘Brow Beaten’ and ‘Yes And Dance’ will be put out on 12″ vinyl with an embossed sleeve. While I haven’t heard the original yet, here’s the 8-minute Time and Space Machine remix to whet your appetite.

gorillaz Two remixes of Gorillaz‘ ‘Stylo‘ popped into the inbox this morning I can share with you all.

First up, the DJ Kofi remix which adds big beats and bass and removes the synth of the original. Secondly, my favourite overall, the Labyrinth remix (link?) which features a guest verse from Tinie Tempah and goes for some 8-bit style.

Alex Metric also turned in a remix people are going mad for. As for Plastic Beach, it’s out on March 5th and they are teasing us with pirate radio broadcasts with new songs, music video trailers and idents a couple of which you can see below. I just can’t wait to hear how the likes of Snoop Dogg, Gruff Rhys, Lou Reed and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble fit into all this.

Strange remix from Galway-based bootleg artist Phil Retrospector (“the undisputed master of melancholy on the audio-visual Bootleg/mashup scene” ) for Billie Ray Martin’s Crackdown Project where Cabaret Voltaire songs get reworked by various producers.

Phil Retrospector has loads of mashups and mixes on his site – Bootlegs Made 4 Walking. Check out his XOXOdus mashup which subtly puts Bob Marley’s ‘Exodus’, Ulrich Schnauss’ ‘Nothing Happens In June’ and ‘Pixies’ ‘Silver’ into each other. It’s taken from Culture Bully’s 2009 Mashed mixtape.

One of the bands recently featured on my top 20 bands to watch for 2010 feature, Monarchy remix fellow Neon Gold artist (now alumnus) Marina and the Diamonds. I’ve had one listen to The Family Jewels so far and as expected, it’s a great pop album. I’m not sure how it will go over in mainstream pop circles but time will tell on that one. Need more listens plz. You can listen to 30 second previews in the iTunes UK store.

With regards to the remixers on this occasion, Monarchy have since been revealed as the band formerly know as Miike. That’s the past. This is their future. “What does that mean?” I don’t know for it is Friday and my eyes are hanging out of my sockets. Here is a remix to distract you from this badly-written post.

MP3: Marina and the Diamonds- Hollywood (Monarchy Gliese Remix)

Wowza. The Horrors do their stellar remix thing once again. Florence Welch played this on BBC Radio 1 when she guest DJed this week.

Another fine remix from The Horrors of TeenagersinTokyo just popped in the inbox.

MP3: TeenagersinTokyo – Peter Pan (The Horrors remix)

bss2 How about a dirty Friday banger to get you in the mood for whatever madness you have planned over the next 72 hours? Buraka Som Sistema have sent this full remix over, a mixed version of which appears on their new Fabriclive 49 CD which is equally as dancefloor friendly featuring tracks from Diplo, BSS themselves, Zomby, Skream, L-Vis 1990 and Major Lazer.

MP3: Buraka Som Sistema – Kurum (Roulet remix)

DOOM
Was it really April when we heard Thom Yorke remix DOOM for the first time? Well a remix EP is finally ready and the tracklisting includes the original ‘Gazzillion Ear’ with remixes from Dr Who Dat?, a Jneiro Jnel/Dave Sitek combo remix and the aforementioned Yorkeypoos rework. The 12″ vinyl with instrumentals, acapellas and bonus DJ scratch is out on January 11th 2010. Pre-ordering.

Most interesting, sign up to the mailing list and get an exclusive Madvillain (Madlib and DOOM) remix.

MP3: Pyramiddd – Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second (Strategy remix)

The Boners weren’t the only band to remix S.E.C.R.E.T. by Delorentos, as The Expert from MJEX also put his own spin on it recently.
