Nialler9 Interview Podcast – ASIWYFA

Tagged Under : ,

asiwyfa Holla folks. This is Aoife Mc here.  Below you’ll find a 40 minute podcast for your downloading pleasure.  It’s along the theme of my last Irish based Nialler9 podcast, only this time we’re focusing on one band.  The almighty And So I Watch You From Afar.  The Derry born Belfast based band blew the heads off of myself and Niall when we saw them play a State.ie gig out in The Purty Loft in Dun Laoghaire a month back.  They inspired me so much that I thought I’d dedicate this latest Irish podcast fully to them.  I really hope you like them as much as myself and Niall do.  They’re so playing at our wedding. LOL.

We’re off on our holidays in about three weeks and I’d like to get another Irish only podcast up on the site before we head off, as the last couple of months have been rife with great talent releasing stuff on our wee island.  In the meantime though, here’s an insight in to the world of ASIWYFA.  Word.

Tracks heard on this podcast are all from the self-titled debut album of ASIWFA and they play as follows:

  1. Set Guitars to Kill
  2. Clench Fists, Grit Teeth… Go!
  3. A Little Bit of Solidarity Goes a Long Way
  4. If It Ain’t Broke…Break It!
  5. Don’t Waste Time Doing Things You Hate

You can buy the album here.

Mind now, it’s a bit loud.  Enjoy!

Our quarter-century podcast is all about new releases. We’ve got superb new tasty tunes from Hudson Mohawke, Montreal’s Clues (whose debut is worth checking out), a song from the already-lauded Suckers EP, a song from the new Starfucker EPlum, a track from David Kitt’s new one The Nightsaver and towards the dancier end of the spectrum: brand new tunes from Clark, Moderat, The Juan Maclean and I shit you not, a surprising song from the Twilight soundtrack.

New Nialler9 podcast… from Aoife Mc

Tagged Under :

Villagers

Hello folks. This is Aoife here, voice of the Nialler9 podcasts. I’m writing to announce the uploading of a brand-spanking sparkly new podcast.*

I’m going to try to add to our podcast output by including a monthly-ish podcast focusing on Irish music. It will be in no way a replacement of our regular monthly podcasts, which will continue as normal. We’re recording the next one this weekend before Nialler heads off to SXSW on Monday (jealous!).

To whet your appetite, below you’ll find the mp3 of our first Irish Nialler9 podcast. I would really love your feedback on it. Do you like the format? What kind of stuff would you like to hear on an Irish podcast? Would you like it to be interview based or just tracks? We are also opening up the forum to giving our new podcast a name. Aoife Mc’s Paddy Whack Trax Attack is a strong contender at the moment, but we could use a few more ideas so comment below if you have any.

On this podast, you’ll hear tracks from Tenaka, The Mighty Stef, The Ambience Affair, Cashier no9 as well as an interview with the really lovely and hoigely talented Conor O’Brien from Villagers.

I really hope you like it

*No sparkles were harmed in the making of this podcast

  1. Tenaka – Ain’t Nobody (Eponymously Titled EP)
  2. The Mighty Stef - Waiting Round To Die (Midnights LP)
  3. The Ambience Affair – Vacant Hearts (Fragile Things EP)
  4. Cashier no9 – To The Death of Fun (single)
  5. Villagers – Pieces – (Hollow Kind EP)
  6. Villagers – Interview Part 1
  7. Villagers – The Sun Is Hanging From A String – (Hollow Kind EP)
  8. Villagers – Interview Part 2
  9. Villagers – The Meaning of The Ritual – (Hollow Kind EP)

Podcast #23 – Solid Gold / Ariel Pink / Fever Ray & more

Belgium’s Aeroplane have been killing their remixes of late. Like a funky taxidermist stuffing the originals with sick grooves. Or something…. Their Friendly Fires and MGMT remixes are repeaters and now you can add their Italo Sebastien Tellier remix to the list. Essential. As is another cut from Solid Gold, the lounge-folk of Ariel Pink, a Cool Kids-esque track from Zion I, an angry skeng from Dublin’s Prince Kong, a Macedonia via Sao Paolo remix, a lovely album track from The Knife frontwoman’s solo project Fever Ray, another ace Four Tet remix, a woman who can’t pronounce her consonants, a man and his ukelele (no, not that one) and Aoife Mc fighting with her microphone. All in.

Nialler9 Podcast #22 – Irish Songs of 2008

Irish songs

Bringing the public polls to a close for another year we have a podcast consisting of the top Irish tunes of 2008, as voted by the readers of Nialler9. We decided not to announce a tracklisting for this one so that you’ll have to listen to it to see who charted where. There are some surprises in there but I will say that songs from the likes of Hunter Gatherer, Lisa Hannigan and Jape all appeared. As for the other ten you’ll just have to listen to Aoife count them down in our 54 minutes special. Go go. Shoo Shoo!

Nialler9 Podcast #21

Apologies for the lateness in this here podcast. We’ve spilled over into December but that’s OK as I’m about to kick the Irish end of year albums and songs poll off this week so the next podcast will be chosen by you. For now though, we have a selection of more leftfield than usual stuff taking in “Malian-tinged sunniness, the electro muddiness of Telepathe, the gloomy ambience of King Midas Sound (The Bug’s new project)and uplifting yet slightly creepy Simian Mobile Disco remix of Deerhunter’s ‘Octet’“.

Aoife Mc who presents is available for bar mitzvahs and radio work. Get in touch.

nialler9 Podcast #19: Sept 08

We found out last night that our podcasts were shortlisted for The Irish Web Awards in Best Podcast category. That’s exciting! Luckily enough, we were due to record this anyway. Once again, we bring you the best new songs that have tickled our ears from Boston’s Passion Pit, Sheffield thanks to former 65 Days of Static member Feedle, London’s bonkers Max Tundra, Brooklyn’s groovy Gang Gang Dance, Dublin’s finest wind-up electronic from the Vinny Club, two sweaty lesbians from Tampa, LA’s noiseniks No Age plus Kentucky’s ambient Interstates and Bristol’s experimentallers Fuck Buttons. Plus, a strange oddity in Neil Young’s discography from 1982 thrown in! Aoife represents.
