ARGENTINA: Zonaindie
ModularFemme Fatale
Listening to Modular’s music is like a journey back to a time when lounge and space-age pop were present on almost every soundtrack and TV show. This track is their own rendition of the great song Femme Fatale by The Velvet Underground, taken from a recent free EP called Yoga Para Extraterrestres (which you can download from here). Don’t miss Requiem Para Robert Moog, another great track from this EP.

AUSTRALIA: Who The Bloody Hell Are They?
OtoutoAstronauts
Exciting new trio Otouto from Melbourne have released a new single called Astronauts on their own artist collective label Two Bright Lakes. You may recognise singer Hazel Brown’s voice from Whitley’s song Killer. So catchy.

club8

Club 8 and their furry friends.

With too many promo emails coming through each day, it can be hard to give due coverage to everything I’d like to feature. Here are some songs I’ve been sent which deserve more of your time and mine.

This time around featuring Flying Lotus, Penguin Prison, The Ambience Affair, The Radio Depart, Padraig McCauley, Lucky Soul, Club 8, Primary 1 and Secret Cities.

  1. Toronto producer Pilotpriest says this track was mistaken for a song from Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack. It sounds nothing like Daft Punk. Imagine Fuck Buttons if they weren’t allowed use distortion and you’re almost there. This is an epic twelve-minute long piece which builds from ambience before a beat drops nearly FIVE minutes in. it goes from this rise to a fall and back to ambience again. I love a good beat tease. [iTunes]

With between 50-100 promo emails coming through each day, it can be hard to give due coverage to everything I’d like to feature. Here are some songs I’ve been sent which deserve more of your time and mine.

  1. A 19 year-old dude from Indiana named Joseph Denny who makes music under the name of Spirit Spine. He’s got many a blogger watching him already. He took his name from a ’70s documentary about people with severed spinal cords who still feel they can walk. His music is like an amalgamation of Dan Deacon, Panda Bear and Washed Out; playful samples and chambered arrangements that belie his Garageband production methods.

He’s got a single Crashers (Highs And Lows) out in two weeks on Makemine Records, a 7″ label who has previously released Gold Panda, The Books and Plastic Little . You can get it from Rough Trade. An album Jungle Bridges has been released Stateside and ‘Flashes’ from that is below.

oemp Every month, MAP (Music Alliance Pact) asks 33 music bloggers across the world to share a track from their home country that they think you should hear.

From Ireland, this month I’ve nominated O Emperor.

ARGENTINA: Zonaindie
CoiffeurHumedad
Coiffeur is not the name of a band, but the alias of a young folk singer and songwriter from Morón, a city in the greater Buenos Aires area). Humedad is one of the finest songs from his third album, El Tonel De Las Danaides, which was released this year by Estamos Felices (Argentina’s coolest independent label, you should check them out).

AUSTRALIA: Who The Bloody Hell Are They?
ToecutterBest Party Ever (Jordan Lightyear & Jimmy2sox remix)
Best Party Ever pretty much sums up Toecutter, a man called David Harris from Milano, New South Wales who creates dancefloor-friendly progressive house music. Apparently, Toecutter has been sitting on this song since 1984 when he recorded the hook onto a cassette and then spent 25 years deliberating on its merits.

CANADA: I(Heart)Music
The Property LineThe Start
The Property Line have only been around a few months but they’ve been building quite a local following with their brand of psychedelia-tinged country-rock. Their EP (which is available for free download on their site) is pretty strong, and nowhere is it stronger than on The Start, in which the band infuses a little Sufjan into their sound, with absolutely stunning results.
