Ellie Goulding - Lights It’s time to get all Smash Hits! on here for this post as I have a signed copy of Ellie Goulding’s debut album Lights, which is out on this Friday (pre-order it here). Ellie plays The Academy on Sunday March 14th and supports Passion Pit the night before.

We wanted to go a bit further with this competition. We wanted to cross internet boundaries IRL (and I don’t mean Chatroulette) to do something a bit different. So we got Ellie to record a video message to you and here it is:

The internet exists in real life! Anyway, to win a signed copy of the album, enter your details here . You’ll be signed up to the Ellie Goulding mailing list but I guess if you’re trying to win a signed copy of the album you won’t mind that too much.

tunnel_rock So a few weeks ago, I travelled to Paris courtesy of Eurostar and We Are Social where I went to the Rock en Seine festival. You can see the full report here. Now the same nice people are kindly offering a Nialler9 reader a free pair of Eurostar tickets to either Paris, Brussels or Lille. Your choice. It’s all part of their Little Break Big Difference campaign.

Once you get to your destination, you can do anything you like or travel a bit further afield. In the more, I’ve compiled a list of gigs taking place in each city which includes shows from Pixies, Phoenix, Boys Noize, Fuck Buttons, Massive Attack, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear, Sonic Youth and loads more. Or you can just chill in the city for the duration of your stay. More ideas here .

If you’re based in Ireland, you’ll still have to make your own way to St. Pancras station in London (a cheap return flight does the job) but the offer is open to UK readers as well of course. Other terms and conditions: Entrants must be over 18 / Tickets are available for travel between now and the 15th November / Entrants must be able to make their own way to St Pancras / Avaliable to UK and Ireland participants only. Competition closes on the 6th of October at 9am.

Here’s how you enter:
Leave a comment below outlining what you’d like to use the tickets for.

The best answer will win the tickets.

Synth Eastwood

With all the fuss about Electric Picnic it’s easy to forget that the Fringe Festival has kicked off already. Tomorrow night (Thursday) sees Synth Eastwood take over the Spiegeltent from 10pm til 2am with a multi-speaker, multi-screen show featuring DJ Synth Eastwood himself and quadrophonic DJ sets by DJ Tu-Ki, Jaycee and Funboi. This will be accompanied by four screens of visuals from SE, Fergal Brennan, D.A.D.D.Y and more.

Ooh, and there’s a pre-show at 8pm in CHQ Georges Dock (beside the Spiegeltent) in which The Spatial Music Collective will be showcasing some of their most recent multichannel tape work. Rumour has it there’s a free Absolut Vodka drinks reception too. Tickets are €15 but I’ve got a plus one to give away thanks to Synth Eastwood.

All you gotta do is send an email to freebies@nialler9.com with your name and email before 1pm Thursday.

If you’ve any other recommendations for the Fringe festival do pop them in the comments.
