Forthcoming: M83 - Saturdays = Youth

First off, a big HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! I’ve been enjoying my Christmas-induced sojourn away from the blogosphere, yet I was itching to get back to writing about forthcoming music in 2008. So, the first handful of a preview of sorts comes from the forthcoming M83 album Saturdays = Youth, to be released on Mute Records, April 15, 2008.
Reinstating formal song structure after from last year’s excellent excursion down ambient paths (in the form of Digital Shades Vol. 1), Anthony Gonzalez promises to deliver more sonic shoe-gazing and edifying electronica on Saturdays = Youth. The album was recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron) and is to be the Frenchman’s fifth album.
No MP3 to offer as yet but a track from the album “Coleurs” has been made available in a Windows Media stream. The first single will be “Graveyard Girl”.

This scares me Nialler!!
1I heard it a few days ago, but still can’t get my head around it. It just sounds like a Ewan Pearson remix of an M83 tune, and hardly any cheesy vocals until the end. I’m still hoping its a remix or a re-edit. Really looking fwd to this album though, but I hope there’s more Ken Thomas than Pearson on there. BTW - got that Yeasayer album, cheers for the tip! Still struggling with Burial though.
Burial is not as incendiary as everyone keeps saying.
I like that M83 track but I can see the remix comparisons.

3Quite like it, in the same way i liked ‘heartbeat’ by Robyn the first time, its brushed with cheese but it depends how you look at it!
4I have that 12 in the picture, it has a brilliant Superpitcher remix on it. And the other one, with a black cover, had a really great Luciano mix on it too.
I did like some of that album though.
I don’t like that new song much though, it finally joins the dots between prog (M83) and prog (Sasha and Digweed). It’s like “Man With The Red Face” became “Man With The Red Furry Boots”.
