Jeffrey Lewis and the Jitters tonight
Sep 18 2007
A gig worthy of a heads-up methinks. Jeffrey Lewis and his band the Jitters are playing in Crawdaddy tonight with support from The Mighty Stef. Tickets are €14 standing / €17 seated. I first saw jeff in the same venue in March 2006 and he was an engaging performer complete with anecdotal songs and powerpoint slideshows of his comic artistry. He is touring to support a new album 12 Crass Songs, 12 interpretations of songs by the anarchist punk band Crass out on Rough Trade.
His recent album recorded with his brother Jack, City and Eastern Songs is my favourite ramshackle punk folk album ever. So there.

The Burning Shoulder..
Now is the time to self-actualise!

FYI,
The show was good not great. They started with 6 or 7 Crass songs which were good but it meant Jeffrey’s songs got less time so the show was less endearing.
Highlight was Stu and friend playing the Creeping Brain for him.
1I’m talkin bout the man with golden arm!
2I thought the fact that the crass songs were done in jeff’s own style endeared them a lot more to the audience and as such were a lot more valid than a whole set of covers should’ve been.i’ll certainly be trying to get my hands on that album.agree with you on city and eastern songs-disappointed ‘back when i was four’ didn’t get an airing but that’s the nature of the beast.
