The Science of Sleep
Jul 31 2007
I’ve had three strange music related dreams in the last three consecutive nights. The first one was involved Oxegen: now a wasteland, a warzone occupied by warring tribes using bits of stages and vehicles as projectiles on each other, while scummers ran around robbing the pockets of everyone else. I seemed to be living in the middle of it in car park -cum- apartment building much like those Fisher Price garages of yore (see above). There was a chillout area of course. No Pieminister though.
The second dream started with myself enjoying a round of golf only to be greeted by a festival stage on the 18th green. I was miffed as my round had been going quite well so despite Frank Black playing on said stage I took my approach shot regardless. It hit nobody but poor aul Frank didn’t take too kindly to being the target for my golf misdemeanors, so he picked up his amp and guitar and walked into the clubhouse, cutting me an almighty look as he did it. The organisers were pissed at me as I single-handledly cancelled their festival.
Last night’s dream wasn’t as exciting, it involved Deerhunter playing a gig in a bar in some Irish hotel and the whole band being as obnoxious as the Sex Pistols. All three of these dreams were extremely vivid and I’m fully aware that listening to someone tell you about a dream they had can be the most disconnected thing in the world (unless it’s like Sufjan Stevens hipster erotica “It Sounds Dumb To Say It, But He Actually Gets Me” - perhaps music blogging’s finest hour..). But fuck it, If you’ve got an interesting dream regarding music, let us know by leaving a comment!

I once had a dream about being on stage and singing “Beautiful Day” in a U2 tribute band, but leaving in a huff half way through the song because I hated myself for my risible Bono shtick… Which was odd.
By the way, thanks for posting that picture. The momentary tidal wave of nostalgia was almost too much to deal with, but it was nice to go back… I remember the lift was always slower going up than down… Simpler times.
1For a while, I had a recurring dream that I was a member of Outkast. Myself, Big Boi and André kept ending up in half-empty, cheesy nightclubs, so it wasn’t half as fun as it sounds.
Also just wondering, would it be possible to have an iTunes subscription to the everyday posts, similar to what aurgasm/stylus have? Right-clicking and saving mp3 links, then importing them to iTunes is a frightful amount of effort.

3Actually man, this post (and that picture) has inspired a post of my own. Check it out. If you want like. No pressure.
4possibly the most old school thing ive seen this summer. kudos.
5That garage brings back strange memories of me sitting in the downstairs toilet, using it to roll matchbox cars around the rim.
6Dreams … yeah whatever. That garage now, man when I was a gurrier that was the best thing ever: even when I migrated to Corgi and Matchbox you could launch them down that ramp, but alas teenage years brought a fire to my garage in that I set it on fire with petrol. Thus depriving my younger brothers of launch capability. They were too busy with their Sega Master System to notice tho.
7i wish i still had my garage.
it seem like everybody had one?
8I had one of those garages too. I used in in conjunction with a large mat that had roads printed on it. i can hear the click when you turn the handle to move the lift now. Ow, the nostalgia…
9Jebus! EVERYONE had one!
10I only ever dream about celebrities - or rather, there are always celebs in my dreams. Last night I had two pretty vivid ones.
The first: I was Tony Soprano’s daughter sent into a Columbine-type situation at an American high school to free those under threat. When I got in, I saw a fire escape door had already been opened. I ran out of it, and down a hill only to be pursued by the gun man and shot in the head.
The second: I was partying in a small apartment with Beyonce, Jay-Z (much better looking in my dream than in real life), Red Man and 2Pac. I kept trying to get photos of me and Beyonce to put on my blog but she was having none of it. Good bit of tension between her and Hova as well. It’ll never last.
11Oh, I had that garage as well. But better was the Cowboy saloon type thing I had. There was a trap door in the roof where you could slide people down. Amazing.
12This is actually mike, but Im logged in as Niall and i couldntr be arsed changin(aaah the privilege). when the garage finally broke i remember tryin to make one out of cassette tape cases and sellotape. couldnt possibly replace it needless to say….
13I had a dream a while ago that i was hanging out with Amy Winehouse and she was buying me and my friends pints of bulmers which i was very happy about. slighly music related cuz she did get up and preform. and she ACTUALLY sang for some time.
14it really was a dream hey….
[...] over the weekend means I need a rest. Plus, I know nothing of Deerhunter to be honest although the dream I had involving them made me feel like I SHOULD be going. I’d only be going to see this song [...]
15I once had a dream where I was in a record shop. I couldn’t read any of the Record labels though no matter how hard I tried, the writing was all messed up.
