Miho Hatori
Oct 24 2006I remember buying the Cibo Matto album Stereo Type A on a whim in a second hand music shop about 5 years ago. When I got home and put it on, I kind of liked the breezy silliness to the instrumentation and I enjoyed the Japanese/English mixed accent rapping with lines like “Obi Wan Kenobi is waiting for me” - (WTF?). But, all in all, I listened to it no more than 10 times and it was quickly forgotten about.
Over the last five years, the best thing about Cibo Matto - Miho Hatori’s distinctive voice - has cropped up on a number of songs from the Beastie Boys, Handsome Boy Modeling School and Gorillaz. Now Miho has her own solo stuff out on an album called Ecdysis.
Check out the video (iPod compatible version) and MP3 of “Barracuda” below. It’s got Miho’s soothing vocals, some bossa nova percussion and funky organ.
