World Cup Fever!
Jun 12 2006
I’ve been neglecting the blog this last week because obviously World Cup Fever has hit hard. I’m really enjoying watching the smaller teams such as Angola, Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana take it to the big boys. So in honour of those teams, here’s another gem highlighted by Short Attention Span radio, the official anthem to Trinidad and Tobago’s World Cup campaign from Maximus Dan, Fighter dedicated to the Soca Warriors.
And representing Cameroon we have reggae legend Macka B with his paean to Cameroon’s World Cup exploits ‘Pam Pam Cameroon’. The song celebrates the Indomitable Lions victory over Argentina in 1990 with the lyrics “5,000 to one inna bookmaker/ Dem all stop talk about Maradona/Talk about dem Cameroon with the two rasta” and goes on to praise the then 44 year old striker Roger Milla who memorably “skip round two like a teenager and ‘im score two wicked goal”.

Finally, to bring all us Irish crashing down to earth, the inspirational (and cheesy) anthem to Ireland’s 1990 World Cup featuring quotes from the big man, Jack Charlton and a spruced up sample of Horslips “An Dearg Doom”. Still brings a tear.
