Upcoming Gigs - Architecture in Helsinki
Apr 02 2006
I’ve been loving Australian 8 piece Architecture in Helsinki’s second album ‘In case we Die’. Symphonic melodies, fragile voices, endearing triumphant songs, smatterings of indie electronica and orchestral rock opera - It’s all here. Oh and bassoons, xylophones, melodicas and sitars. It’s so sweet and joyful it threatens to be too sugar coated, but ultimately it wins you over with it’s uplifting indie pop stylings. The best description I’ve seen so far is from the Guardian - “It is like rifling through a thrift shop of sound: lots of interesting bits and pieces, piled together, which sometimes don’t quite fit, but aren’t the usual stuff you find in the shops.”
Architecture in Helsinki play The Village, Dublin on the 14th of May, tickets are €18.50. Check out their cool Flash site , the mp3 below of Do the Whirlwind and the excellent video for the song here.

Im guessing you mean 14th of April!!!!
1Or 14th of MAY even!!!!!
2Yes oops sorry for the confusion, it’s changed now. Was very tired when I wrote that.
3I went along to see these guys earlier in the year in TMBC expecting big things after listening to their album but I was very disappointed with them Live. The most important aspect of playing live for a large band like AIH is cohesiveness on stage amongst the musicians, this was severely lacking that night.
I also thought songs were pretty scattered and the wasn’t sound at all great. I know they have a big following especially ex-pat austrailians living here so the atmosphere was pretty good but in comparison to Broken Social Scene who played with even more members on stage in the same venue AIH sounded like a bunch of school kids performing at an end of year talent show.
Now that ive got that off my back :-)…i won’t be going on May 14th
4Ok Padraig, point taken. In fact your not the first person to say that , but i was hoping it wasn’t true as their album is so superb. Well whatever the outcome , We’ll find out here on May 14th. i’m glad its not on in the TBMC , I’m so fed up of that place after Ladytron at the weekend. Hopefully, the Village will bring out the best in them.
5Ladytron!!! Balls, didnt know they were playing. Where they any good?
6Saw them in witness a few years back and they were pretty good.
It was a DJ set, it was terrible. see the previous post. they couldn’t mix. Having said that though a lot of people there were enjoying themselves. It was shit though.
7note to self…must read previous posts….
8I loved the first album but hated the second one. I missed the TBMC gig but I might venture along to this. I think that’s the same week as Broken Social Scene too…
9i’ve only listened to the first album a few times but it doesn’t seem nearly as fun as In case we Die, which has replaced the Go team album as the one i listen to when i’m in a really good mood. Hopefully they won’t disappoint.
10The Go-Team, don’t get me started about their live performace at Oxegen last year! The rocked in The Village early in 2005 though which is a rarity considering how brutal a venue it is.
The album is wearing a bit thin for me at tis stage, there are a few gems on there all the same though. ….See im trying not to be too critical all the time
11PAdraig, have you heard any of the live versions and b-sides floating around mp3 blogs? They are great, search for them on the hype machine - http://hype.non-standard.net/. Otherwise let me know and I can some of them up for you
12I wanna see them (especially Semifinalists supporting) but it’s the same night as Final Fantasy and I’ve already seen AiH.
Come to my blog yolk too?
13[...] Continuing the great run of gigs in Dublin recently, this weekend saw Dublin host Architecture in Helsinki, DJ /Rupture and Final Fantasy. It was great to see Rupture on Saturday night seeing as I was blown away by Minesweeper Suite and some of his online mixes. Last night though The Village was jammers for Architecture in Helsinki and support band Semifinalists. Walking into the venue during the Semifinalists set, I felt good vibes from the crowd in the venue straight away. This sentiment was echoed by my friend who said the same thing to me independently. Whatever was in the air last night, I was sure there was a LOT of interest in Architecture in Helsinki. [...]
