Upcoming Gigs - The Fiery Furnaces
Mar 21 2006
Plenty of interesting gigs coming up in the next few months (which I will be highlighting to you over the next two weeks). First up though, the Fiery Furnaces play Whelans on the 6th of May, tickets are priced €17.50. The band consists of a brother and sister who have released 3 albums and a long EP in the last three years. Last year’s ‘Rehearsing my Choir’ is a monumentally ambitious ode to their grandmother, who features in musical narratives throughout the record. Critics and fans are divided on the record, but one thing everybody can agree on, is that it is a unique and ambitious album, that at times is impenentrable.
The Fiery Furnaces are in town however to promote their new album ‘Bitter Tea’, which is due out on the 10th of April. It promises to be a more accessible rock album, and judging by the songs floating around the net, it is. The Fiery Furnaces are one of those bands you either get or don’t. See for yourself, download a track off their new album ‘I’m in no mood’ below.

That should be an ace gig.
1this could be a cracker of a gig, i’d say whelans will be stuffed and wouldn’t be surpried it it’s moved to the village
2have their blueberry boat album and it veers from the sublime to the ridiculous - they’re a bit self indulgent to say the least but when they;re good they’re great!
