It Manifest into a Baby!!!
Feb 27 2006
Another great weekend for live music in Dublin (as well as a unique one in terms of the first riots seen in Dublin for 25 years) , with the Wrong Music crew mashing it up in the Legal Eagle and Channel One’s excellent free gig in the Music Centre launching their EP. So with all the great music I’ve been hearing I decided to post up some tracks I’ve been listening to a lot of lately.
MP3s
Channel One - 8 Divided by 13
Channel One sound a little bit like Soulwax playing Joy Division, OK? Check out their website.
Broken Social Scene - Puff The Magic Dragon
Excellent cover of a children’s subliminal classic with a really weird outro that was rejected from the See you on the Moon compilation.
Macka B - Power of the Mind
First brought to my attention by the excellent Roots Manuva Breezeblock, Macka B tells us how powerful our minds are and how it can do anything you want it to do. It also contains some great lyrics such as “ But can you remember when you were thinking of having your baby. And the words and the thoughts coming from you and your lady. Those words and those thoughts they became reality. THEY MANIFEST INTO A BABY!!!!
Mice Parade - Out of the Freedom World
Really nice jangly acoustic sounds featuring a cheng, a Chinese harp instrument from the album Obrigado Saudade.
Reflection Eternal ft. bahamadia - Chaos
Great Hip Hop track from the excellent Soundbombing II compilation from 1999 featuring Talib Kweli and the unique style of female MC , Bahamadia.
M83 - Violet Tree (Violent Tree Mix By Mum)
Dark and Atmospheric.
Stephen Shannon - Tokyo
Stephen is a member of Dublin group, Halfset and has recently posted up a bunch of his own tracks on myspace. Wise move as they are very good, Check him out and drop him some feedback.
