MA Undeniably Massive Attack. Dark, cinematic, Brooding. It’s good to hear Daddy G on the track again. It sounds like they’ve been listening a lot to the Brainfeeder crew (particularly it has been pointed out – Nosaj Thing).

Zane Lowe premiered this on BBC Radio One last night (You can listen to it for 24 hours after broadcast here). It’s taken from a new EP out in October with an album to follow in February.

Splitting the atom // Massive Attack by risingson

The EP looks like this:

1. Splitting the Atom featuring 3D, Daddy G and Horace Andy
2. Pray For Rain featuring Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio)
3. Psyche ( Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid remix) featuring Martina Topley Bird
4. Bulletproof Love (Christoff Berg remix) featuring Guy Garvey (Elbow)

It’s a very interesting track. I still find it surreal that we’re getting our first new MA track since “Live With Me”, but thankfully it doesn’t disappoint. It has a nice minimalist quality that many musicians have done in recent months (Portishead, Depeche Mode, etc.) Hearing Horace and Daddy G again makes this so worthwhile if nothing else.

I think the quality of the production and song arrangements are slowly dwindling with each subsequent release. They peaked at Mezzanine and that’s coming from a huge fan. Just seems they’ve lost a lot of passion for what they do. Might explain why it takes 5 years for every release.
