Jaydiohead

We’ve been here before.

1) Dangermouse’s Grey album featured Jay-Z mashed up with The Beatles.
2) Amplive’s sterling rap reworkings used In Rainbows as backing tracks.
3) Girl Talk, who mashed up everyone in popular music culture over the last 30 years in a mashup orgy.

There were a gazillion others in the interim and beyond and to be perfectly honest, this latest effort by Minty Fresh Beats is not very imaginative on paper. It’s too obvious. That’s why no-one has mashed up Jay-Z with Radiohead til now? It happens to be a lot better than it has any right to be.This is a gazillion times better than that Coldplay/Jay-Z collab by a country mile. Fuck you Chris Martin, this is how it’s done.

Jaydiohead – Dirt off Your Android

Jaydiohead – Wrong Prayer

There are a nice amount of subtle changes and arrangement additions here to make this really work.

You can download it all at http://jaydiohead.com/.

Listened to this a lot last week, and just not really feeling it. I just think it’s maybe 5 years too late or something and it’s quite samey after a while.

I understand that. Many of these songs have had something done to them mashup wise previously

Wait one bleedin’ second – I posted a comment on this very page earlier in the week and it never showed up – what’s all that about? I mentioned the other new Radiohead/Jay Z mashup project – “Hovahead” – and included a link. Or is there some automated thing that disallows comments with URLs in them? Sucky… Anyway, worth mentioning in the post since it’s also new and pretty much the exact same thing as Jaydiohead.

Ah well. Server problems are hell, always a major relief when they’re sorted. Any opinion on Hovahead yet?

Do I really have to listen to another radiohead/jay-z mashup album?

Well since you raved about one on your blog, I figured it was something you’d be into! Or did I jump to conclusions?

Personally, I’ve got the new John Frusciante album to take care of all my listening needs, so I’m not mad fussed about Hovahead really. Some nice stuff on it, particularly those delicious backing tracks…

so i have a slight disagreement with AstonishingSodApe’s claim that the Jaydiohead record is “pretty much the exact same thing” as the Hovahead record in that, the Jaydiohead record is nice that its not a start to finish mash of ‘the black album’. No doubt they are very similar, but thats really only in that they are both Jay-Z/Radiohead mashes. Im leaning more towards the Jaydiohead record because at least there is some variety in the Jigga tracks used, something about listening to The Black Album start to finish is just to familiar with the Danger Mouse record. I dunno, its a picky problem, but its just that i played TBA to death, then i played TGA to death, im not sure ill be able to play Hovahead to death. Cant say the same for this.
in a toss up, id download Jaydiohead. The difference in Jigga Man tracks does it for me.

Ah yeah, Jaydiohead is definitely better. More flair. Still not too bothered about Hovahead, though it’s worth a listen.

Jaydiohead >>>>Hovahead. Good lord. They shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence.
