Great list…. there is many albums in here I have yet to listen to.. in particular albums 16-20. So thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Agree with the comment on Atmosphere – seriously good album. My list would also have included Frightened Rabbit, Sun Kil Moon and Cut Copy’s ‘In Ghost Colours’. Also think that Fucked Up ‘The Chemistry of Common Life’ is a seriously good listen also…

Thumbs up also to Alopecia for the number 1 spot… so damn good its very hard not to listen to it all the time

I likes. Only four of the above (Vinny, Pivot, Heathers and RSAG) made my own list of 25, but stuff like FLA, Bon Iver and Q-Tip weren’t far off. I still do notttt understand the Portishead love though; I love their debut, but I think the new record is dull by comparison and dull on its own merits.

i was travelling for all of 2008 so missed alot but one record i did pick up on the road which has been so overlooked atmosphere “when life gives you lemons, paint that shit gold” so fucking good this LP

Wasn’t too enamoured with London Zoo as a whole though Angry, Skeng and Poison Dart are unreal.

good list.. i agree “london zoo” should be in there. today i went to a record shop to get
the daedelus album, but i discovered “saint dymphna” by gang gang dance and spontaneously bought this one instead. it’s missing in your list, but it’s really great. squarepusher’s “just a souvenir” would definatel by in my top 30, maybe instead of the new jamie lidell album which i was really disappointed of.
anyway.. thanks for the recommendations!

What a joy to see a list not topped by Fleet bloody Foxes. Nice emphasis on people trying to push things forward in their various genres, no heritage music in there. Surprised at the absence of ‘London Zoo’ too and yet to get into Fuck Buttons myself but it’s a cracking list all round.

Really good list
Its amazing the bands youd forget were 2008 like m83 and Vampire Weekend
