The Irish album public poll is back for the third year in a row and what a year it has been for Irish music. Probably the best year in the last ten years for me. The diversity and freshness of some of the music released from these shores has been phenomenal. So to celebrate that and to highlight the best of the best, I am hereby opening the vote.

This year instead of EPs, I’m asking you to also submit your favourite Irish songs of 2008, the results of which will be tallied up and released as a special Christmas podcast.

Here are the simple rules to vote:

  1. You can pick up to 5 Irish albums and songs released in 2008.
  2. At least 3 Irish albums and songs are required in your submission for your vote to count to stop people from asking their mates to vote for them.
  3. 3 ways to vote
    1. Leave your votes in the comments in public for all to see.
    2. Use the vote page.
    3. Send an email to vote@nialler9.com with your
      choices.

So what’s it gonna be?

    5. RSAG or Chequerboard

Some wonderful pop choons from the likes of Ian Whitty & Autamata especially: “Watching The World Go By”, “Cloud Seekers”, “Houndstoorth Shirt” etc. Far too much down south to name individually this year.

This post also got me thinking about the albums from Belfast which I enjoyed the most. So here goes:

Fav NI track: Lowly Knights – “You Can Tell A Man”
Fav NI EP: Filaria – “Bruce Lee Perry”
Fav NI albums: undecided – either Barry Lynn, Three Tales, Burning Codes, RL/VL or David Holmes (probably in that order)..

Three Tales is ace, especially Garron Point, the final track. Some free downloads available from:

    http://furioustradesmen.com/

Would also recommend “Lullaby” & “Electronic Experiment Gone Wrong” by Heliopause (Belfast). Also smashing.
