I remember seeing Rodrigo Y Gabriela on Grafton Street every now and again about six or seven years back as I’m sure some of you might also recall. I remember seeing then in a small theatre show in Newbridge about five years ago and being blown away by their considerable skill. Foc is a great album too for a pair of busking Mexicans in Ireland. Of course, in the last few years, they have left Ireland and have been playing on US late night talks shows like Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and have been pretty much gigging worldwide since.

Their new live album showcases their skill in arena most suited to them. It was recorded in Tokyo and so is called Live in Japan. The album also comes with a five-track live DVD of the gig. I’ve been kindly given 5 CDs & DVD packs to giveaway so here’s the rub. All you have to do is leave a comment with a link to your favourite virtuosic guitarist video on youtube or wherever. I’ll contact the winners next week.

Rory Gallgher doesn’t need to shred like Yngwie ’cause he’s got a Souped Up Ford.

This would be my official entry, though: Satriani’s a cliche, but a wailer. My 80s-hair guitar teacher worshipped him (His name was Greg Savage)
