8 bit Boy

My favourite song from what will probably be lots of cool people’s album of the year, Untrue gets a club-friendly remix. The changes to the original are subtle including some beat and bass replenishments that give it extra kick. Diplo posted this on his Mad Decent blog on Monday. You can find more info on 8-Bit Boy including more pictures of him in various dress-up states here.

Yeah, not really feeling that remix at all. Seems like he just put the original into Ableton Live and threw a few different drum loops under it.

I like some of it PMC, particularly the first half but I can’t shake the feeling that I’m just listening to hype. Having said that, it’s miles better than the debut.

Ah Niall, you’ve got to love that record! I know there’s been a load of hype about it but I think it’ll stand the test of time. I had the same feeling the same time the second Boards Of Canada album came out- you wonder whether people were saying it was great to overcompensate for completely missing the first record while it was gaining a big underground following (the same reason Q have ‘Neon Bible’ as their album of the year- it is in it’s hole the album of the year, even the muppets at Q don’t believe that…). And, funnily enough, he’s getting very similar criticisms that Boards Of Canada got when they started getting more recognition- all the music tech heads are banging on about the beats not being complex enough etc. etc. At the end of the day, Burial has released two records within a year of each other and already has a sound that is his alone. I don’t think ‘Untrue’ is his masterpiece but it’s better than 99.9% of electronic music released this year.

not bad but put on the original directly after and watch how it degenerates to mush.
