[...] But then comes Battles, a New York group formed from bands I’m not really familiar with. Last year they signed to Warp and brought out a couple of EPs (tracks available on their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/battlestheband) that had people like nialler9 ragging on about them in a particular persistent fashion. http://www.nialler9.com/blog/2007/02/20/battles-and-my-favourite-song-of-last-year/ [...]
math-rock
well, personally I prefer classical nu-grime with lashings of opera-core, and just a smidgin of ill-bient opera-step. (invented genre wars update: Mike 1 - Nialler/Gav - 0)

p.s - Any one catch this post-anydoob movement that's sweeping the trendy NY hangout spots?

Depends on your definition of math-rock nialler..if it encompasses any of the bands i've been harping on about over the past few days then boo to you sir, there are certainly other math rock bands worth mentioning, some even from ireland.all a matter of lumping bands in i suppose but still, are the rednecks mathrock?are terrordactyl?or are we talking purely in terms of battles/don caballero etc?it'll be interesting to see who u:mack chooses to support battles, thats if they aren't bringing a touring band...hmmm..

I was thrilled when I heard about the date for May as I couldn't get to them last time either. Ep C and B Ep were some of my favourite listens of last year and from all reports the live experience takes it to another level.

Hadn't heard about the upcoming album yet, it'll be eagerly awaited from now on!
