Just a quick heads up for anybody who’s interested in Brasilintime the documentary I referred to a while back, there is a screening of the film in the Lobby Bar, Harcourt St, Dublin 2, (in-between POD and Crawdaddy) on Thursday night (27th July). It starts at 8pm and there will be a Q+A with director Brian Cross (B+) afterwards along with an afterparty with DJ Nuts from Sao Paolo.
The film has been 4 years in the making and it is an essay-istic documentary which sets out to correlate the similarities between Brasilian and Funk music from the 1960’s – 1970’s. All the usual suspects are in there like Cut Chemist, Babu, J.Rocc, Madlib, DJ Nuts and of course the amazing range of Brazilian musicians that collaborated on the project. Check out the Mochilla website for more info! Choice Cuts are running the show and tickets (which are extremely limited) are €15. You could chance showing up on the night but tickets can be bought online at www.tickets.ie or All-City, Road Records, Carbon, City Discs and Big Brother.

[...] If you like any of these artists or want to see what the fuss about Stones Throw is, then pick up the Stones Throw Ten Years record. Madlib and J Rocc featured in Brasilintime which I had the pleasure of seeing here in Dublin on Thursday night. The film aims to bring together some of the best DJs around with the drummers / percussionists from Brazil who they sampled and were inspired by to play a show in Sao Paolo. The concert footage is a joy to watch as the older generation are clearly relishing the chance to show off their experience and to play with some of their American and Brazilian peers. Well worth a watch, if there’s a screening near you. [...]
