Broken Social Scene Live

Well folks the Broken Social Scene gig came and went over the weekend and it was one of the best gigs I’d been to in a long long time. I’ve been waiting two years to see them and they lived up to my expectations. Highlights were anything the five piece brass section played on, Anthems for a 17 year old Girl, Shoreline, Stars and Sons, Fire Eye’d Boy, It’s All gonna Break, Ah who am I kidding it was all great, I enjoyed every minute of it. Some gigs in the Temple Bar Music Centre have suffered from poor sound and boring crowd, but the sound was excellent and people were really into it. You can tell that the band were enjoying it by their constant banter between the songs and the fact that Kevin Drew jumped into the crowd to give everybody hugs before the end. I have to say though it’s strange to see a band moving their own equipment out of the venue afterwards and standing around in the pouring rain. Some bad photos are here and an even worse video here. If anybody has an decent photos or videos, reviews, thoughts etc, post a comment and tell us about it.

    Niall,

I would go further and say this was the best ever gig ive been to in Dublin. Like yourself I have been waiting a long time for them after first being introduced to them in Canada in 2002 when I lived in Toronto for a year. ‘Anthems for a 17 year old girl’ was my personnal highlight, i was literaly tingling all over. They were so utterly cohesive on stage, every song perfectly balanced and each musician contributing seemlessly to the overall sound.

A rare night and even though its only the start of February i would be shocked if there will be a better gig this year, unless of course they come to a festival this summer. Fingers crossed.

P.S: We should have a full review of the gig up on infactah later on today. unfortunately no on bothered to bring a camera but I must say I like the image youve posted.

    Excellent Padraig,

I agree with you completely, I’m just not sure if it is the best gig I’ve ever been to, time will tell. But it left me with a satisfaction that I haven’t had for a long time at a gig.

I seem to be listening to a lot of Canadian music lately and a lot of people i know are heading off there now. In fact I’ve toyed with the idea of going there myself, How did you find Toronto or Canada in general? Would you Recommend it?

I’m complelled to chime in on two points here:

    1. The gig was indeed a wonderful thing to behold.

    2. Vancouver is the best city I have ever lived in, and I’d go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

I meant ‘had’. Otherwise I sound like a cartoon character from the Bronx in that sentence.
