Jape covers Toto’s ‘Africa’

Richie Egan has bestowed upon us his inspired cover of that seminal 1982 paean ‘Africa’ which he recorded last week. The thing I remember most about Toto are their striking album covers. Toto IV was my favourite cover and that’s the album that ‘Africa’ resides on. As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti, Richie hopes you like it.

The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation /
I stopped an old man along the way /
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies /
He turned to me as if to say, hurry boy, its waiting there for you

Oh yeh..

Bleedin wicked. I can’t listen to it here in work but I’ll check it later. The original tune is one of my guilty pleasures. I have the Toto IV album on vinyl at home (and will guiltily admit to listening to Rosanna just the other day). I was a big fan of Toto and in particular their drummer Jeff Porcaro. Many pop and rock fans probably wouldn’t realise that he was THE session drummer to employ when making your album back in the eighties. RIP Jeff. Long live Richie

Jeff Pocaro, the drummer from Toto actually did die in a bizarre gardening accident.

Not really but it’s a popular urban legend. Maybe, it may be been coke related too.
